Unmade: A Speculative Retrospective - art project

I am developing an artwork entitled Unmade, in which I explore my deferred creative life as an artist who shifted from early success as a professional performer, theater maker, choreographer, playwright, and poet to a career championing the visions of others. Over twenty-five years, while navigating motherhood and collaborative roles, I secretly archived 155 personal project concepts in emails labeled "Art to Make." I am bringing this hidden archive to light by presenting these unexpressed ideas as a series of sketches. Rather than lamenting what could have been, I created this speculative exhibition to validate these concepts as beautiful, meaningful artworks in their own right, reclaiming my lifelong artistic voice that persisted in the margins.

Question Bridge: America‍ ‍- art project

Commissioned to expand a groundbreaking dialogue, artists Hank Willis Thomas, Bayeté Ross Smith, Rosa White, Will Sylvester, Chris Johnson, and collaborative groups like For Freedoms present Question Bridge: America. Building upon the legacy of Question Bridge: Black Males, a video-based artwork now archived at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, this latest iteration scales the project to a national level. The work facilitates a vital exchange across differences, inviting Americans to ask the questions they rarely say out loud and to listen for the answers.

Understory Arts - land & community initiative

Understory Arts is a land-rooted practice of cultural regeneration, ecological restoration, and civic imagination on a half-acre in the Altadena foothills, in the long aftermath of the Eaton Fire. Now in collaboration with the Urban Ecology Conservatory, whose Dead Mall Society turns depleted urban spaces into regenerative ground, two neighborhoods asking what to rebuild, and what to make of what was left behind.

Making Another AI - book & workshop project

A successor to the 2020 publication, Making a New Reality (commissioned by the Ford Foundation), this book argues that today's dominant AI isn't value-free, but rather "value-narrow." The sense of powerlessness many creative practitioners feel is induced, not inherent. Viable alternatives already exist; our work now is to deeply understand the landscape so we can actively adopt, collaboratively design, or consciously reject specific AI tools, platforms, and systems. These concepts are already field-tested. The Making Another AI workshops have been developed, prototyped, and run with practitioner cohorts, and the workshops are now available for individuals to register for and organizations to host for their communities.
